When Weston + Nikki told me they were cheerleaders for the University of Dayton, I knew they were going to be a fun couple. From their engagement session at the Dayton Art Institute through their wedding reception shenanigans at The Cheetah Lounge, they've proven that they're absolutely up for anything, so long as it's fun, and I adore them for it! Having their wedding at The Ohio Caverns, their fun and adventurous spirits were highlighted by the beautiful surroundings, and Nikki even braved trekking down 60 steps into the caverns--in heels, mind you--for some spectacular bride and groom portraits after their ceremony. Many people would think that would be the highlight of this fantastic couples photos, but in the case of Weston + Nikki, you'd be wrong. Because what wedding is complete without vaulting your bride into the air, and tossing a few of your guests around? That's exactly what happened at Weston + Nikki's wedding, and it was an absolute blast from start to finish!
Arriving that morning, rain was coming down in a constant drizzle, varying from heavy to almost non-existent, teasing us and making us think it might be clearing up, before going back to a heavy rain once more. Weston + Nikki handled it was amazing grace, deciding to move their beautiful wedding plans from out on the grounds to under a nearby pavilion, where their ushers and groomsmen quickly went to work, decorating the space to match the one not 50 yards away. And what a fantastic job they did! It was beautiful, but nothing beat Weston's ear-to-ear grin as he saw Nikki for the first time coming down the aisle. Her princess-styled wedding dress was absolutely stunning, and it was such a wonderful sight to see Weston's reaction to her. Their ceremony was sweet, and they were announced as Mr. & Mrs. to the cheers of their friends and family in attendance.
Of course, as fate would have it, the rain stopped right as the ceremony began, but that simply meant their portraits were beautiful! The light after a rain is always a little softer, a little sweeter, and it shows in their portraits. But not only did we do portrait time above ground. We were allowed to traverse down into the Ohio Caverns themselves, where we had a few minutes to create some fantastic portraits with the beautiful formations within the cavern itself. Nikki was such a trooper; we wrapped her in beach towels to keep her dress clean, and she trekked into the caverns as though she always hiked in heels! Their portraits were fantastic, and I was so glad they were game to get their adventure on.
Heading onto the reception, they were greeted by their guests with cheers once more at The Cheetah Lounge, where they danced and tumbled the night away. It was completely normal to suddenly see a guest break into a back tuck mid-song, and it was hilarious to see all of their teammates planning stunts. I was thrilled when Weston came up to me and told me they were going to do a "Basket" with Nikki, which I came to find out was him and his fellow teammates vaulting her into the air! One groomsmen offered me a bird's eye view for a shot, asking if I wanted to stand on his shoulders. While I was at first a bit apprehensive, he assured me he'd done this at least two times, which immediately put me at ease. Now, being part of the stunt myself, I was afforded an angle I wouldn't otherwise have seen, and it was a blast! I don't see too many brides thrown into the air, and it was quite the scene! It was an absolute blast, and definitely a reception I won't forget anytime soon.
Weston + Nikki, congratulations on your marriage! It has been an absolute honor to get to know you over the past year as you've planned your wedding, and your day was absolutely perfect. I wish you all the best, and I can't wait to see where life takes you on your journey together!
