Being a wedding photographer, I believe, is truly the best job ever. It's amazing to meet so many fantastic couples at one of the most exciting points in their lives, get to know them as they go through the process of planning their wedding, and then see them embark on the journey of a lifetime on their wedding day. By the time we reach the actual wedding day, many times I've become close with my couples, which makes their wedding day so incredible for me to document, and it's an honor that I will always be in awe of.
Such is the case with Kortney and Sarah, whom from the moment I met, we hit it off and had a great time. These two were a blast on their engagement session, and by the end I felt like we were old friends. Their trust and easy-going nature made it a blast to create with them, and by the time we got to their wedding, we had become friends, and I was extremely excited to document their wedding. And man, was it a great one!
Upon arriving to their home, was greeted by their friends, and found Kortney in high spirits. With Sarah at her sister's, I hung with Kortney as she got ready, then headed down the street to Sarah. Again, I was greeted and welcomed in like family, and it was a blast to just fall in and watch them enjoying themselves, celebrating with Sarah as she got ready. And, when Sarah had to go back to her house to put her dress on, the hilarity of watching the bridesmaids all team up to quarantine Kortney in the basement was a blast to watch unfold! These two were seriously two of the most fun brides I have ever gotten to work with, from start to finish, and their families and friends made it even better.
One of the moments that struck me on that day, and still does to today, was their first look. The decided to do their first look at one of my favorite locations in Dayton, which is Wegerzyn Garden. In October, the colors are just stunning, and the weather on their day was perfect, so it was as though the stars were aligning for their first moments together. When we had Kortney in place, Sarah walked up to her, and as Kortney laid eyes on her for the first time, it was magic. The excitement and joy at seeing one another was so palpable, and getting to document that joy was an honor.
Throughout the rest of the day, the excitement was so apparent, and Top of the Market was the perfect location for them to say their vows. The ceremony was such a celebration, and the warehouse feel, coupled with the cheerful array of colors in their floral arrangements from Floral V Designs, created such a bright, happy environment for the day. They chose to have a good friend be ordained and marry them, which was fantastic, and then came the reception.
Oh, the reception!
Talk about a dance party! These two hardly ever left the dance floor, except for some nighttime portraits, and even then, they were dancing, laughing, and having a great time with their friends who had come out with us to commandeer the Atmosphere Aerosol, a handy trick I just call "fog in a can." Having their friends run around them with the aerosol was hilarious, and then when we went back inside, their friends used it in the reception area to make quite a fantastic backdrop for photos, when coupled with the great uplighting from Black Box Weddings, their DJ for the night!
All in all, Kortney and Sarah had one heck of a wedding, and it was an absolute blast to be the one to get to document it! Kortney + Sarah, thank you SO MUCH for entrusting me with your wedding day, and beyond that, thank you for being such wonderful, wonderful human beings, whom I now have the honor to call friends. It's such a joy to have gotten to know you and see the two of you become the Dahlstons. I wish you all the best in your adventures in life, and Kortney, I promise the next time we go to the gym, I'll work harder not to break you for the next week. :)
