Art comes in many forms. When people think of art, some think of the works of Monet, Picasso, and Michaelango. Some, their minds go to the their favorite authors. Others, perhaps musicians. However, whatever form art takes in your mind at first thought, there’s so much more below the surface. Creatives come in all varieties. Mine happens to be photography. And, as a creative, getting to work with kindred creative spirits is always a joy, no matter the form it takes. However, over the past year I’ve had the immense honor of working with some of the most insanely talented artists in theatre, and I’ve come away with a new and deeper appreciation for just how hard these human beings work to create, hone their craft, and bring joy to others through their talent. This is an art that encompasses so many facets, and those involved have to be on their game every night of every show, physically and mentally. They’re athletes, musicians, and actors, all wrapped into one package. One of those amazing people is Anthony Murphy, who plays the Genie in the Australian company of Disney’s Aladdin: The Musical.

I met Anthony in Chicago, and from the moment he walked into the studio, he brought with him such an energy, such joy, that it was impossible to not immediately love him. He brought 110%, and when a person walks in that ready to jam, it’s always an amazing time. His willingness to try anything, fearlessness, and flat out awesome personality made it a joy to create for him.

And, let me tell you, this man can DANCE. As in, I almost stopped taking photos just because it was so much fun to watch him move as we jammed to music and laughed the time away. He’s smooth, and as amazing as his dancing is, he gave a little teaser of how fantastic of a singer he is as well, and I’m envious of anyone who has the opportunity to watch him in action in Aladdin.

I could go on and on about how awesome Anthony is, but I’ll let you check out a little of what we created and see for yourself. Anthony, thank you so much for coming in and letting me create with you. You’re truly a master at your craft, and I can’t wait for the opportunity to see you in action!
