Jake + Whitney's Breathtaking Canadian Rockies Engagement Session
Trust is a huge factor in any relationship, and it’s no different for wedding and engagement photography. However, it’s rare that a couple invests 100% trust the way that Jake + Whitney did for their engagement and wedding photos. They gave so much trust, that they asked *me* where I’d like to go for their engagement photos! They said they love to travel, and wanted to see something new. Without hesitation, I suggested we go to Canmore, Canada for their engagement photos, and cap it off at Moraine Lake in Banff — a place I’d not seen in person yet, but knew was gorgeous, thanks to the photos my friends and colleagues have shared from the area. And, without missing a beat, Jake + Whitney said, “Let’s go!” And away we went!
Waking up at 4 AM that Friday morning, Jake, Whitney and I were up well before the sun ever even began to think about rising, hoping to beat the crowds at Moraine Lake. My dear friend Dave, who is a fantastic wedding photographer, had warned us that getting to Moraine Lake late would result in the parking lot being full, and our hopes of catching a good sunrise photo lessening. So, knowing that Dave knows his stuff, we trekked out in the middle of the night, hoping for that fabled parking spot that would allow us close proximity to the Lake. And, by the grace of the photography gods, we arrived in the parking lot with 3 parking spots left! Win!
Hiking up to the rock piles as the sun thought about rising for the day was an experience in itself. When we reached the top, we realized so many others were there as well, and it was amazing to experience the sunrise with so many other adventurers. Canmore and Banff offer such incredible views for engagement photos — and any photos, really, that it makes perfect sense so many people travel from all over the world to see it!
But, as we hiked back down, we started to try out different locations that weren’t quite as popular. We went a little off the beaten path and found fun little nooks and crannies for their session, which turned out creating some of the best photos we made. And, when they were brave enough to walk onto the log that sits out over Moraine Lake, we created a super amazing photo that we’ve agreed needs to be printed huge on their wall! There is no shortage of beauty in Banff, and Jake and Whitney certainly took advantage of it.
