One of the most important decisions you'll make while planning your wedding is choosing your wedding photographer. When making this decision, a lot of key elements may come into play. What style of wedding photography do you prefer? Would you like your wedding photographer to be with you all day, or would you prefer to have them there for only the key elements? Do you want strictly wedding day coverage, or would you like an engagement session? Have you thought about wedding albums, and how you will preserve your images after your wedding day is done? There are many questions to ask, and it's important you find a wedding photographer that fits your vision for your day.
One of the key elements I encourage my wedding couples to think about is finding not only a wedding photographer whose work you love, but also a wedding photographer whose personality you love. Because you will spend the majority of your wedding day with your wedding photographer, having a great rapport with them will enable them to capture you at your best, your most comfortable, and create wedding photos that you will love long after the day is done.
A great opportunity for both you and your wedding photographer to get to know one another is the engagement session. Many engaged couples may not have ever had a professional portrait session before, and during the engagement is a perfect time to celebrate one another, as well as get some great images in the process! I encourage my couples to take the day off and plan a fun date together. We'll hit up a great local coffee shop, like Ghostlight Coffee in Dayton, Ohio, and then go outdoors for another, different look. The two of you will enjoy time together doing things you love, and the photographs are a by-product of having a great time.
When you are having fun with your fiancé, it's evident. When you choose a wedding and engagement photographer that is able to capture your natural state of being, you'll love your engagement photos. Feel free to ask your wedding photographer what they suggest doing for a great date night, that translates into great opportunities for photos! You'll be surprised at how much fun you can have together creating images you'll love for a lifetime.
Creative lighting is key to creating fantastic engagement images no matter what the location or situation. When you choose a wedding photographer who understands creative lighting and how to best create storytelling images, you will find that even the most mundane or unexpected locations will become playgrounds for your wedding and engagement photographer.
Columbus is a treasure trove of fantastic locations for engagement and wedding photography, and finding the best Columbus wedding photographers is important to taking advantage of those elements that are unique to Columbus, Ohio. Downtown Columbus in particular is a wonderful place for engagement photos, particularly Short North. The Hilton Columbus Downtown is the perfect Columbus wedding venue, filled with beautiful spaces for portraits, and a great wedding reception. One of those spaces is the unique, glass walkway from the Hilton to the Columbus Convention Center. With many photos of this iconic location, it's important to find a creative wedding photographer to provide you with a new spin on a popular location.
Using MagnetMod flash modifiers, this creative Columbus engagement photo was created in a matter of moments. Using a single speed light flash behind my couple, I added a MagSphere and pointed it at the wall behind them to create an explosion of light, throwing them into a silhouette. With the walkway already being lit, and the beautiful "blue hour" outside, and the beautiful reflections off the glass railways, this image is one of my favorite Columbus engagement photos I've taken. Utilizing simple light setups can drastically change a scene, and choosing a skilled wedding photographer will allow you to receive images that are fresh and unique to you.

On your most important day as a couple, you want to know that you are surrounded by those who are excited to celebrate your love. As Lin Manuel Miranda so eloquently said as he accepted his Tony Award for Best Score for Hamilton: An American Musical, "And love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside."
It's important to find a wedding photographer you are comfortable with, and one that you feel you can be yourselves around. Regardless of race, orientation, or sports team you support (though those can get pretty important, ha!), it is always an absolute honor to be welcomed into a couples' lives, meet their friends and loved ones, and celebrate their love for one another.

Vancouver Engagement Photographers
As a destination wedding and engagement photographer, I have seen many locations, but there are none that compare the Vancouver, Canada. The Pacific Northwest of the United States and Canada is truly my favorite location to be a wedding and engagement photographer, and any chance I have to photograph weddings in Portland, Seattle, or anywhere in the PNW, I'm on it.
One of the perfect reasons why the Pacific Northwest is the best place to get elope or plan a wedding are the gorgeous temperate rainforests around every bend. Nestled in a gorgeous, centuries old forest in North Vancouver, lies Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge, one of Vancouver's best kept secrets. Lynn Canyon Park is one of the best locations in Vancouver for an engagement or bridal session, teeming with beautiful green forestry year-round, breathtaking waterfalls, and as magical as it is, it's only a short drive from downtown Vancouver.
Having many opportunities to photograph engagement sessions in Vancouver, the trick of a good wedding and engagement photographer is to make locations look new and fresh for each couple, no matter how many times one visits a location. Using a DJI Mavic Pro drone, we captured this extremely unique Vancouver engagement photo in a popular Vancouver engagement session location. With the new vantage point, both the couple and the gorgeous scenery below the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge were highlighted, and a new story is told of a Vancouver spring engagement session.
Make sure when choosing your Vancouver wedding photographer that they are creative and ready to make unique wedding and engagement photos just for you. Vancouver is a beautiful city to be married in, and you want to be sure that your Vancouver wedding photographer is up to the task!

Ohio University Engagement Photos
Ohio University Bobcat Alumni know how to have fun! Choosing to have your engagement session in places that are important to the two of you is a wonderful way to capture your story, and the Ohio University campus is extremely beautiful -- especially in autumn!
The wonderful thing about engagement photos is that they can be anything you want them to be -- you simply have to find the creative engagement photographer that will provide you with the vision you have! As a destination wedding and engagement photographer, I have learned that many times, the straightforward image isn't always the best one...and in this case, the best angle was up in the tree, so up in the tree I went! Finding the best wedding and engagement photographer for you may take some time, but when you find them, you will inevitably know. Their work will resonate with you, and hopefully you enjoy them as well.
Another key element is deciding what season to do your engagement session. If possible, I always recommend autumn, simply because of the beautiful foliage and the mild temperatures. There's nothing worse in the world than trying to look like you're having a blast snuggling, when it feels like it's about a thousand degrees outside! Choosing a season, as well as a time of day that optimizes both temperature and lighting situations, will allow you to have the best engagement photos you can have.
A concern of many couples is how to not look awkward in their wedding and engagement photos. Let me tell you this: if you're having fun, you will rarely look awkward -- you'll look like you're having a blast with your fiancé! I encourage couples to choose engagement photo locations that have meaning to them, or we can brainstorm together to find engagement session locations that fit your personality and style. Together we'll find the best locations for your engagement photos, and we'll rock out!
Paris Engagement Photos
If you're planning a vacation, why not incorporate your engagement session into somewhere fantastic? Or, even better, why not plan your vacation around having amazing engagement photos done somewhere you wouldn't otherwise have them done?
Having a destination engagement session in Paris, France is a true dream, and sunset on the Mall that leads to the Eiffel Tower is the ultimate experience. There are plenty of amazing engagement photo locations in Paris, but one of the most iconic engagement locations is the Eiffel Tower. After capturing you and your fiancé by the Eiffel Tower, I suggest walking along the Siene River, grabbing a Parisian street crepe, and taking in the gorgeous gardens of Notre Dame. If you're willing to wake early, having a sunrise engagement session outside of the Louvre is absolutely stunning, as the sun rises over the old world architecture and bounces off the beautiful glass pyramid entrance. And, not far beyond is the Tuileries Garden, complete with a Ferris wheel and an overwhelming assortment of art, sculpture gardens, and fountains to play with.
And, that's not to forget the opportunity to go up the Arc de Triomphe, a spectacle all of its own, but especially spectacular from atop, where you can capture the bustling city life below. To top it off, taking the walk to the top of Sacré Cœur, filled with its gorgeous gardens and stunning basilica, there are no shortages of amazing locations in Paris for engagement photos. Planning a destination wedding or elopement in Paris, France can be daunting, but finding a destination wedding photographer in Paris doesn't need to be!
Chicago Engagement Photo Locations
Chicago Engagement Photographers
Being a destination wedding and engagement photographer, one of my favorite places to photograph is Chicago, Illinois. With its many beautiful green nooks, its fantastic architecture, and so much to do, it's really impossible to not have a great time being a wedding and engagement photographer in Chicago.
One of my favorite locations is Montrose Harbor, right along Lake Michigan. It's always full of life, with beautiful sailboats moving in and out of the harbor, and the Chicago sunsets are rewarding when you're patient enough to wait for them.
As with any portrait session, it's important to connect with your wedding and engagement photographer and discuss the best time for your session. Your photographer should be able to determine the best times for optimal results, and one of the best times for my particular style of photography is during "golden hour," or approximately 60-90 minutes prior to sunset.
During golden hour, the light is rich, warm, and softer on you, which gives a more flattering effect on you and your fiancé. During this session, we shot through that "golden hour," into what photographers call "blue hour," which is right after the sun sets, but there are still colors in the sky. This particular image was during that "blue hour," thanks to a single speed light flash with a MagnetMod MagSphere and MagGrid attached, camera left just out of the frame to illuminate the couple and maintain the beautiful colors blossoming over Lake Michigan. Utilizing the tilt screen on the Sony A9, I was able to put the camera nearly in the water and still see the frame, which allowed this image to be extremely easy and quick.
One of the key elements you want to look for in your wedding and engagement photographer is their ability to create on the fly, and use unique and diverse angles to tell your story fully. Many times the straightforward photo is nice, but with a little creativity, you'll find a much more dynamic angle to create an image that will stop your friends and family in their tracks when you show it off. You only get married once -- have fantastic, iconic wedding and engagement photos to remember the day by!
