Inside, you find beautifully curated art wings. And, within the heart of the Institute is the Hale Cloister, bringing the outdoors to the center of the Museum! Whether you prefer indoor or outdoor options, you won’t have any shortage of photographic opportunity on your wedding day.

If you’re a theatre aficionado, the Mimi and Stuart Rose Auditorium might be your favorite stop. Adorned with beautiful artwork along the walls and boasting plush red seating, you’ll love the aesthetics of this theatre. However, if you’re searching for timelessly classic vibes, the marble Great Hall won’t disappoint! With its grand pillars and stunning staircase, it will turn heads as your wedding day backdrop.

Additionally, the Dayton Art Institute is close to many other locations for photos! Many couples opt to walk across to the Dayton Masonic Center to use their architecture to add variety to their photos. And, if you’re wanting a more outdoor nature vibe for portraits, Dayton’s Riverscape Metro Park is just minutes away as well.

Beautiful Natural Light

While I love to use flash, natural light is one of my favorite ways to create images for couples. The Dayton Art Institute has some of the most beautiful areas filled with natural light in the Dayton area, and it’s a joy to create beautiful, story-telling images using this light. With strategically placed windows, beautiful clean spaces, and architecture that enhances the experience, the Dayton Art Institute might possibly be my favorite place to play with light and shadows.

Stunning Ambiance

Along the lines of stunning natural light, the Shaw Gothic Cloister in particular has a wonderful ambiance, both with natural light during the day, and with incredible uplighting at night. The rounded room with vaulted ceilings provides the room with a grand feeling, but you’re also able to move around and visit with all your guests. I highly recommend using Party Pleasers DJ or Liftoff Entertainment to take this space to the next level with their uplighting during your reception, and you’ll see this space come to life with incredible flair.
