Mike and Kayli might be two of the coolest, most adventurous people I know…and that’s saying something! When I met Kayli, we connected through the Sony Alpha Female initiative. And, when it came time for Kayli to begin wedding planning, it was an honor to hear from her and get the opportunity to be her destination wedding photographer! As we decided on things, I had made a joke that if they decided they wanted to go to south Iceland for engagement photos, I wouldn’t be mad at all. We’d laughed about it and carried on, not really thinking much of it.
That is, until I received an email from Kayli’s maid of honor, asking me if I was serious about going to Iceland with them. You see, Nicole decided to gift Mike + Kayli with an adventure engagement session in Iceland! After hearing Kayli tell her about our conversation, Nicole knew she wanted to make it happen. And make it happen, she did! With the only window of time left in my schedule between their wedding date, we jetted off to create some south Iceland engagement photos that I hope they loved as much as I loved capturing it for them!
Arriving at the Keflavik International Airport on Monday morning, Mike + Kayli picked me up and we hit the road immediately. Stopping along the way to chase the light, we found great spots and explored the gorgeous countryside. And, when we made it to Dyrhólaey at sunset, we were given the most delicious golden light over the black sand beaches imaginable. Talk about a great day!
After finding our place for the evening, we hit one of my favorite little breweries in Vik for dinner, and the next morning, we were back at the adventures. As we wandered back toward Grindavík, we stopped for more photos. And, after a whirlwind 36 hours, we ended the adventure at the Blue Lagoon, one of my absolute favorite places in the world, and a must see for everyone who goes to Iceland. What a way to relax and celebrate an adventure engagement session!
Mike + Kayli, thank you so much for entrusting me with your engagement and wedding photos! Nicole, you receive the best maid of honor award for sure, and I can’t wait to meet you at the wedding in November! This is certainly one amazing experience, and I hope you all enjoyed it. Cheers!
