There are plenty of wedding photographers in Dayton, Ohio, so how do you choose your wedding photographer? The choices are extensive, so you want to be able to narrow it down to a few choices, and get to know those photographers better.
Narrow your choices down to the photographers whose images resonate with you the most.
There will be plenty of wedding photographers who take nice photos. However, you will find that there are few wedding photographers whose images truly resonate with you personally. What makes those images stand out to you? Are they a similar aesthetic? Do they lean toward photojournalism, or more posed? Do they get into the thick of things, or do they stay back? There is a lot that you can learn about photographers from their style of imagery. And, once you've narrowed that list of photographers down based on whose work resonates with you, it's time to get in contact with them.
Get on the phone with your wedding photographers and get to know their personalities.
A huge part of your day is going to be spent with your wedding photographer, so it's important you connect with them on a personal level. If your personalities don't jive, it'll make for a long day! So hop on the phone and make some calls. If the photographer you're interested in is local, see if they'll meet with you for a coffee, and if they're not, hop on Skype to get a chat in. No matter what, you want to get to know your wedding photographer a little bit to make sure they're your kind of crazy, and not the kind of crazy that will literally make you crazy by the end of the wedding day. Ain't nobody got time for that!
Look at full galleries to get the full picture.
One of the biggest things I tell my potential clients is to ask for entire wedding galleries, not just the highlight reel, to get a better picture as to what they can expect from their wedding photographer on the wedding day. Seeing the highlights is great, but seeing a full wedding better gives you an idea of what you can expect on your wedding day, and that way there's no surprises! Make sure you're digging deep to ensure you have the best wedding photos possible.
Above all, have fun during your wedding planning. It can get overwhelming to plan a wedding, and choosing your wedding photographer can feel daunting. But, if you take it in stride, you'll find it can be a wonderful process, and you may just connect with someone you never imagined, who will create some killer images for you on your wedding day.
