It’s a word that makes you pause. It’s a sound that makes you stop in your tracks. And it’s an action that lets everyone know that you are there.

It’s what we all want for our photography. We want people to pause, look, and take in our images. So how can we make that happen?

ROAR: A Wedding Photography Workshop aims to help you find your unique voice, conquer fears or insecurities you might have, encourage you to ask questions, and come away a more rounded photographer. Together, over the course of 2 full days, we’ll tackle how to build a storytelling portfolio, learn to see light in a new way, and work on connecting with clients in a way that will create a rabid referral base for years to come.

Roaring isn’t just about the epic photo — it’s about all the little things that add up to the moment you deliver a fantastic gallery to your client. Start to finish. Roaring comes when you’re confident in yourself, in your gear, and you pass that confidence on to your client.

If you are a female or non-binary photographer looking to up your game, you’re in the right place. Meet me in Dayton, Ohio August 19-22 not for just another wedding photography workshop, but an opportunity to grow together, build on your strengths, and take away some new ideas to implement in your next wedding. And, not only will you learn new things, but because this is a Sony Alpha Female sponsored workshop, you’ll get to try out some of Sony’s latest gear for yourself and see what all the talk is about! The fun doesn’t stop there, either. You’ll also get take home some of my favorite lighting gear from MagMod to keep the party going after we’ve parted ways.

So what are you waiting for? Are you ready to roar with me?

Monday evening we’ll all connect at the Mills Park Hotel in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Once everyone arrives, we’ll go for a welcome dinner at one of the awesome downtown Dayton restaurants, get to know one another, and get ready for a fantastic few days of learning.

On Tuesday, we’ll wake up bright and early and get straight to it! While having a delicious breakfast at Mills Park, we’ll discuss natural light and off camera flash, and how to make the most of both. We’ll practice shooting getting ready with live models, and then we’ll move over to one of my favorite venues in town, Top of the Market, for some off camera flash work in a real wedding venue in real time scenarios. We’ll break for lunch, then wander Dayton for more situational shooting, and learning to make the most of any locational situation. We’ll finish the day in one of my absolute favorite spots for an engagement session: a local quarry where the opportunities are endless for a plethora of looks!
Throughout the day, we’ll make sure the photographer to model ratio is 3-to-1, so everyone will have the opportunity to direct the models, create their vision, and also have the chance to have one-on-one discussions to overcome any roadblocks you might have. And, when we’ve tapped out, we’ll hit another fantastic dinner spot in Dayton!

On Wednesday we’ll be back at it early to discuss client care, workflow, editing, and how to create a rabid referral base. We’ll chat about social media and how to make it work for you. Then, we’ll head back out into Yellow Springs for more shooting opportunities in one of the most unique little towns you’ll see. Again, you’ll enjoy plenty of opportunity to direct multiple couples.

That evening we’ll dine together once more, head back, and share what we’ve created together and what we’ve conquered! The days will be long, but they’ll be fantastic.
Thursday morning we’ll reconvene over breakfast, and say our final see you laters — because that’s not goodbye! We’ll continue our conversations and work together to continue to uplift and encourage one another on our journeys.

But the best part is this: thanks to Sony, we’ll have the opportunity to all play with the latest Sony cameras and lenses, if you’d like to do so. On top of that, I’m gifting everyone a MagMod Starter Flash Kit to take home with you, so you can jump into your next wedding with the tools I’ll teach you. Plus, Midwest Photo Exchange has graciously offered to loan everyone flashes if you don’t already have one, so never fear, the gear is here!
