Robert + Michelle's Super Fun Modeling Session in Orlando
Kreativ Summit. The name even oozes creativity and the possibility of inspiration. And, for the photographers that descended onto downtown Orlando at the end of January, I hope it delivered the same inspirational experience to them that it did for myself! While teaching my photo walk, Robert + Michelle were kind enough to model for us for some mock Orlando engagement photos, and I think the results were pretty fun.
You see, I am honored to say I was one of Kreativ’s speakers and teachers. After a day full of amazing speakers, a small group of attendees met me in the lobby of the Aloft Hotel to learn one of my favorite things: how to “polish the turd.”
If you haven’t heard that phrase before, you’re probably not alone. However, it’s one of my favorite challenges. This is something I teach to every student of mine in my workshop, ROAR. Every space I walk into, I look for at least five photos I could create. I look for interesting light, or where I could place a couple and add interest. I look for places that will tell a story, or enhance the story of my couple. And, on our photo walk, I showed my students just how I would “polish” a place that didn’t necessarily scream photographic magic. Hopefully, they walked away with a little more curiosity and inspiration to spin a location in a new way!
No matter the situation, whether a real shoot or a styled one, you can create magic in any location. I hope these mock Orlando engagement photos inspire others to try to think outside the box. Find a new perspective on a tried and true location. Try a new lighting technique. Be curious. Photography is fun! We should always be searching for new ways to tell a story.
